Welcome to NIMITTA

Nadaranjani Institute Of Music, Indian Traditional & Tribal Arts

Who We Are

About

Nimitta is an organization with a devoted purpose of propagation of Indian classical, traditional and vernacular arts. In a nation of innumerable cultures and traditions, it is of utmost concern that we don’t lose the skills and knowledge gained through years of research and practice by our previous generations. With a belief that propagation is as important as preservation, Nimitta aims at preserving our rich heritage, culture and traditions, be it from the cottage industries of northeast or the classical music down south.

Founded in the year 2019 by musicians
Sriram Sastry, a Karnatak classical vocalist, teacher, composer and
Shruthi Karkodlu, a Classical and Light Music vocalist

Based on the statement ‘Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitaha’, Nimitta is committed to the protection and propagation of our culture, which has been preserved for our generation by our forefathers despite innumerable invasions. Not to be unsure, we have definitely lost many art forms by other influences or invasions. It’s need of the hour to protect whatever we are left with and it is for this purpose, Nimitta is here. Nimitta means ‘for the purpose’; it is a Kannada word.

TRIBAL AND TRADITIONAL FINE ARTS

EFFORTS TO PROTECT AND PROPAGATE THE TRADITIONS OF TRIBES
Regionally, there are several art forms across our Nation, those are commonly referred to as tribal art forms. For example Warli of Maharashtra, Gond of Madhya Pradesh, etc; Traditional arts include local ancient practices for preparations for Indian Festivities, everyday lifestyle practices, Vedic and Dharmic practices, Yoga, Agricultural practices and such other activities. We have been artistically exhibiting some of these in our Pinterest Gallery, some through AV productions and such activities.

OBEISANCES TO PIONEERS

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES TO CELEBRATE AND PROPAGATE THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF PIONEERS
The month of February is earmarked for the purpose of celebrating the lives of great personalities and pioneers whose contributions to the field of cultural landscape phenomenally brought an impact on the society. Thyagaraja and Purandara Dasa aradhana were a regular feature with mass music processions and presentations of their major compositions. Now, with the aim of propagating cultural heritage to a wider audience, celebrating festivals themed on lives of people who contributed towards preserving and celebrating cultural heritages are conducted to achieve cross disciplinary connoisseurship.
